Jakarta – Mantan Ketua Umum Pimpinan Pusat Muhammadiyah Din Syamsuddin mengundurkan diri dari jabatannya sebagai utusan khusus presiden untuk dialog dan kerjasama antaragama dan peradaban. Surat pengunduran dirinya sudah dilayangkan kepada Presiden Joko Widodo pada  Jumat 21 September 2018.

Menurut Din, surat pengunduran itu sengaja baru dikirimkan. Alasannya, pada Jumat ini Jokowi resmi mendapatkan nomer urut untuk kontestasi Pilpres 2019. Dengan adanya nomor urut itu, Jokowi selain menjadi presiden, juga resmi menjadi calon presiden.

“Organisasi yang pernah saya pimpin Muhammadiyah, punya khittah tidak terlibat dalam politik kekuasaan,” kata Din selepas menghadiri acara HUT Korps Alumni HMI, di Gedung Nusantara IV, DPR RI, Senayan, Jakarta. “Maka saya harus bersifat netral.”

Din mengatakan meskipun Utusan Khusus tak termasuk jabatan politik praktis tetapi memiliki konotasi yang rentan disalahpahami. Frasa utusan presiden, kata dia, dapat memunculkan dugaan bahwa dirinya lebih dekat dengan kubu Jokowi.

Dengan alasan itu di memilih mundur agar umat dan ormas Islam tidak terpecah. Ia merasa harus menjadi penengah atas hal ini, agar kepercayaan terhadap organisasi Islam dapat terjaga.

Din mengklaim pernah diajak untuk bergabung dengan tim pemenangan Jokowi. Namun ajakan itu dia tolak dengan alasan yang sama, tidak ingin umat terpecah. Apalagi dia dekat dengan kedua kubu.Hubungan Din Syamsuddin dengan Jokowi terbangun setelah hampir setahun ia menjadi utusan khusus. Sedangkan relasinya dengan Prabowo terbentuk saat ia menjabat sebagai direktur Center for Policy and Development Center (CPDS). Mereka sering bersinggungan karena salah satu programnya mendekatkan cendekiawan muslim yang ia bawahi, dengan pasukan TNI. “Jadi saya ingin mengambil sisi penengah dan perantara,” kata dia.
