Namun, Petronas nampaknya belum berminat untuk mengembangkan investasi di sektor industri petrokimia di Indonesia. Apalagi selain Kertih, Petronas juga bakal memiliki fasilitas produksi produk kimia terutama polimer dan glicol, yang lebih besar di Pengerang, Johor.
“Kami fokus pada pertumbuhan bisnis upstream (hulu) di Indonesia,” kata Country Head of Petronas Carigali Indonesia, Mohamad Zaini Md Nor.
Ia justru berharap Pemerintah Indonesia melalui SKK Migas memberi kesempatan Petronas untuk menggarap ladang migas, terutama gas, yang bagus di Jawa.
“Kalau bisa yang di Jawa,” ujar Zaini yang juga President PC Muriah Ltd. Menurut dia, pasar gas di Indonesia yang terbesar ada di Jawa.
Selain itu, infrastruktur di Jawa lebih lengkap dibanding provinsi lain, apalagi Papua. Hal itu, lanjut dia, sangat penting, mengingat produksi gas butuh infrastruktur dan pasar yang kuat.
Berdasarkan data SKK Migas, Petronas menempati posisi ke-9 dari 10 besar Kontraktor Kontrak Kerja Sama (KKKS) yang memberi kontribusi utama lifting minyak di Indonesia.
Tahun lalu lifting migas Indonesia mencapai 1,944 juta barrel oil equivalent per day (BOEPD) atau 98,9 persen dari target APBN-P 2017 sebesar 1,965 BPOEPD.
Dari jumlah tersebut lifting minyak sebesar 803,8 ribu barrel oil per day (BOPD) dan gas sebesar 1,140 juta BOEPD.(Lutfi/Ant).
