(Puspen TNI. Sabtu, 16 September 2017).  Kepala Staf Umum (Kasum) TNI Laksdya TNI Dr. Didit Herdiawan, M.P.A., M.B.A. mewakili Panglima TNI Jenderal TNI Gatot Nurmantyo, beberapa waktu lalu mengikuti Konferensi Chiefs of Defense(CHODs) / Panglima Angkatan Bersenjata di Hotel Fairmont Empress, Victoria BC Kanada.

Konferensi CHODs Tahun 2017 dengan tema “The Future Security Environment Challenges, Complexity and Cooperation” diikuti oleh oleh 27 Negara, yaitu Amerika Serikat, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Kanada, Cili, Cina, Kolombia, Fiji, Indonesia, Inggris, Jepang, Korea Selatan, Malaysia, Meksiko, Mongolia, Nepal, Selandia Baru, Pakistan, Papua Nugini, Peru, Perancis, Singapura, Srilanka, Thailand, Timor Leste dan Vietnam.

Konferensi CHODs 2017 adalah forum berskala multinasional dan multilateral yang bersifat strategis dengan mengangkat tiga topik yaitu Trend in the Indo-Asia Pacific, Countering and Preventing Violent Extremism, dan Peace Support Operations.  Konferensi ini merupakan bagian dari kerja sama keamanan yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan saling pengertian dalam hubungan pertahanan militer guna menjaga stabilitas keamanan kawasan.

Kegiatan tahunan CHODs merupakansarana yang tepat dan strategis dalam menjalin komunikasi dan tukar menukar informasi termasuk penyampaian sikap dan pandangan Indonesiadalam hal ini TNI pada berbagai masalah dan isu keamanan yang berkembang di kawasan Asia Pasifik.

Posisi strategis Indonesia di kawasan Asia Pasifik dapat dijadikan sebagai nilai tambah (credit point) dalam menunjukkan kepada negara-negara di kawasan bahwa Indonesia bisa menjadi leading sector pada setiap upaya penyelesaian masalah yang timbul, khususnya di wilayah Laut Cina Selatan dan Laut Sulu.

Disela-sela pelaksanaan Konferensi CHODs Tahun 2017, Kasum TNI Laksdya TNI Dr. Didit Herdiawan berkesempatan melaksanakan multilateral meeting dan bilateral meeting dengan pejabat/pimpinan Angkatan Bersenjata dari beberapa negara peserta, yaitu dengan Panglima US PACOM, Panglima Angkatan Bersenjata Australia, Selandia Baru, Pakistan, Perancis, Korea Selatan, Jepang, Inggris dan Kanada serta Kasal Malaysia.(puspen TNI/PUTRI)
